Working Visit of the Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia Tea Akhvlediani to Portugal

Working visit of the Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia Tea Akhvlediani took place on the 10th of January, 2020 in Portugal. Meetings with the Secretary of State of the Portuguese Communities Berta Nunes, Secretary of State for Integration and Migrations Cláudia Pereira, Secretary of State  of Labour and Professional Formation Miguel Cabrita, Director General of the Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Júlio Vilela and the Head of the International Organization for Migration Lisbon Office Marta Bronzin. Deputy Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Bartaia was being participated in the visit. Meetings were attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Portugal Revaz Beshidze. Representatives of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the senior counsellor of the Embassy were also attending the meetings.

Subjects of the working agenda were regular migration management and issues related with the labour market policy; enhancing of bilateral cooperation in the field of temporary, legal (circular) labour migration was thoroughly discussed. Parties presented positions of the two countries, identified areas of common interest, talked over possibilities of developing partnership in this area and agreed on the ways for further cooperation

The Deputy Minister clarified the position of the Government of Georgia regarding one of the priorities related to the effective implementation of the employment and active labour market policies, amongst them development of legal temporary employment opportunities abroad. Tea Akhvlediani spoke about the reforms implemented in Georgia in the relevant directions, stressing the importance of the support of Portugal for Georgia's EU integration and NATO accession.
