Let me welcome you on the web-page of the Georgian Embassy to the Portuguese Republic. Our aim is to represent Georgia in the Portuguese Republic. The main goal of the embassy is to deepen and strengthen relations between Georgia and Portugal.

2012 marked the 20th anniversary from the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Portuguese Republic. I am pleased to note that in recent years our countries have developed excellent relations. With the friendly country of Portugal Georgia shares the common values of democracy and liberty.

It is a great honour and privilege for me to be Georgia's Ambassador to Portugal and help solidify and further develop the friendly relations between the two countries.

Georgian Government attaches high importance to the deepening of the relations in political and economic, as well as research, education, tourism and cultural areas.

Georgia and Portugal have unwavering respect towards the fundamental principles of international law. The steadfast position of the government of Portugal with regard to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, the mutual support in the frames of multilateral cooperation, as well as the convergence of views on the core issues of the global agenda and the current dynamic of relations between our countries, renders our cooperation even closer and more fruitful.

The relations between Georgia and Portugal have historic origins. Famous Portuguese poet Luí s Vaz de Camõ es was first to introduce Georgian history and lifestyle in his epic poem "Lusiada" to the Portuguese. He drew parallels between Portuguese history and the legend of "Argonauts", depicted the story of Medea and Jason, portrayed the life within Kolkheti and Iberia Kingdoms and called upon European Christian countries to defend Georgia from its foreign enemies.

I would like to thank you for your interest towards the web-page of the Embassy. Let me note, that myself, as well as every employee of the Embassy stand ready to assist and support Georgian citizens and compatriots residing in the Republic of Portugal to the extent possible. We are all united in caring for the wellbeing of our country and striving for its better future. I would be delighted/happy if, together with you, we will be able to bring the relations between Georgia and the Portuguese Republic to a new level.
